The ISIS Neutron Training Course is a practical instrument-based course for postgraduate and post-doc researchers who have little or no experience of neutron scattering, but whose future research program will make use of time-of-flight neutron techniques.
This course runs annually for 10 days at ISIS with places for 32 participants. The deadline for applications is 8th January 2024.
The course includes free accommodation at Cosener's House in Abingdon, and travel expenses (within the UK only) - and is free to participating attendees. We are not able to fund travel expenses from outside of the UK οr fees assoicatied with VISA applications.
Selection criteria for applications to the Neutron Training Course
Applications for the Neutron Training Course are assesed by a selection panel according to the following criteria (in order of importance):
- Preference is given to applicants who, in the judgement of the selection committee, will make significant use of neutron scattering in their research. This is assessed via a reserach statement provided by the applicant and a recommendation statement by the research supervisor.
- Preference is given to applicants who are in the very earliest stage of their reserach using neutron scattering.
- Preference is given to applicants funded from the UK (this is interpreted broadly and it includes University, Research Council or UK Industry funding) and those from ISIS partner countries: Sweden, Italy, Netherlands, India, Canada, Brazil, Indonesia and Malaysia
The selection committee is made of of the ISIS Neutron Training Course co-ordinators and an external ISIS user representative. Due to the high demand for places, we regret that we are unable to accept either undergraduates or masters students on the course.
