Deadline for abstract submission for consideration for a talk: 18th April
Deadline for registration for attendance: 16th May
Alongside the usual exciting scientific contributions, we also want to use this meeting to discuss the future direction of Disordered Materials science at ISIS. We are keen for users to share potential transformative scientific directions in areas such as:
We plan to include plenty of time for discussion to understand how these new directions can be achieved in practice and in partnership with the user community. In particular, we want to discuss this in the context of increased capability and capacity that will be provided by SANDALS-II, and explore ways to reduce bottlenecks in data analysis through better learning resources and knowledge sharing across the user community.
We welcome talks or closing remarks which constructively highlight these themes, and encourage you to 'think big' about what you would like out of Disordered Materials research in the next five to ten years and how this might be achieved in partnership.
User Group Meeting: 10-11th June.
The meeting will run from lunchtime on 10th to the evening of the 11th with a user-meeting dinner on the night of the 10th. Attendees are encouraged to submit abstracts either for consideration as a contributed talk, or for posters that will be on display throughout the meeting. We plan to allow for extended discussions both during the science sessions and at a wrap-up plenary session at the end of the second day – addressing the themes outlined above. Accommodation will be provided at Cosener’s House for all attendees. Numbers may be limited due to availability of rooms, and will be allocated to ensure a good representation from a wide variety of groups, and then on a first come first served basis. For those wishing to stay for the software workshop, accommodation and dinner is available on the night of the 11th
Software workshop: 12-13th June
The software workshop will start on the morning of 12th June with introductory lectures on data analysis and reduction. Following this there will be classroom based sessions on using Dissolve to analyse and interpret neutron and X-ray data for disordered materials – mostly intended for new users to simulation based data refinement and/or the Dissolve code. Note that unlike previous years we will not be offering a separate session on EPSR, however, a “data analysis and reduction surgery” will run in parallel, allowing attendees to discuss specific queries, including EPSR and Gudrun, with members of the DM group. There will be a workshop dinner on the night of the 12th, with the Dissolve workshop and data analysis surgery continuing through to the afternoon of Friday 13th.
