Job Role:

My role involves facilitating the efficient use of the x-ray instrumentation in the R53 Materials Characterisation Lab (MCL). To this end, I am responsible for ensuring the instruments are calibrated and working correctly; I provide training in the safe operation of the instruments, sample preparation and sample loading techniques; I can assist with data reduction and interpretation, and can suggest the most suitable technique for the sample properties to be investigated.

Previous Experience:

During my PhD at Warwick, I worked closely with what became the x-ray Research Technology Platform (RTP), using techniques such as powder diffraction, single crystal diffraction, pole figure generation, reciprocal space mapping and Metripol measurements, and occasionally assisting users with these measurements as well.

Specifically, my thesis involved the synthesis of a powder of a solid solution of BiFeO3 (BFO) and (K1/2Bi1/2)TiO3 (KBT) perovskites to investigate the structural parameters with respect to composition and temperature, and investigation of some single crystal samples from the compositional range. This involved extensive use of powder diffraction with respect to temperature, and single crystal diffraction, along with scanning electron microscopy measurements and related elemental mapping of the samples.
