The Hydrogen and Catalysis laboratory will experience some disruption in 2024. Please be aware of this and plan your use of the lab accordingly.

Important Notice: Disruptions to service in 2024

The Hydrogen and Catalysis lab needs to undergo vital infrastructure works/updates this year. These will take place over a period of 6 months, starting around Summer/Autumn 2024 and ending in the winter. While staff will do all they can to put in place provisions to ensure that research ongoing in the HCat Lab will be able to carry on without much interruption there is certainly a possibility that the lab will be completely inoperable for at least part of this period.

For further information, please contact James Taylor, the lab manager.

iSorb installation

The new Quantachrome iSorb HP2 high pressure gas sorption analyser discussed in the previous issue of the Newsletter has been unpacked and the work towards integrating it on the beamlines is currently ongoing. The current beamline integration work is with IRIS, discussions for integration with WISH have also been brought up, but in principle it will be possible to integrate with any beamline. If you would like to discuss the use of this equipment further, please contact the lab manager,

General Updates

As a reminder to staff and users, when the Hydrogen and Catalysis lab has been used for experiments, it should be acknowledged in any papers, presentations etc. that make use of those data. This can be as simple as "The authors wish to thank the ISIS Hydrogen and Catalysis Lab for the use of their facilities".

Industrial Placement Student

The HCat lab has successfully applied for an industrial placement student for the 2024/2025 cohort.

To discuss the use of these equipment, please contact Dr James Taylor, and check out the Hydrogen and Catalysis Laboratory website.
