I am a senior Cryogenics Technician within the Experimental Operations Division of ISIS and have been in the position since 2002. The role involves installation of low temperature equipment, superconducting magnets and all associated electronics & peripherals onto the experimental beam lines, maintenance and repair of cryogenic hardware and testing and development of new and challenging sample environment requirements.
I served a four year apprenticeship as an electrician before taking up a position within Oxford Instruments in 1993 where I gained HNC Physics qualification, my responsibilities there included testing of superconducting magnet systems, low temperature inserts and vibrating sample magnetometers as well as extensive travel to install and commission high field superconducting magnet systems at customer labs around the world.
