Sample Containers
Measurements will only be performed on samples in ‘standard cuvettes', or wrapped in aluminium foil ‘packets’ so as to be suitable for mounting on the LOQ sample changer. In the latter case, the samples must be between 12 and 16 mm in diameter (or equivalent squares).
Samples that do not conform to these requirements will likely be returned or discarded. We do not have the time to re-package your samples! If in doubt, please talk to us before shipping your samples.
Quartz Cuvettes
- 2mm pathlength suitable for up to 0.7cm3
Only one type of quartz cuvette (Hellma stock sode 110-QS, Optiglass stock code 21/Q) will be mounted for Xpress Access measurements. If the user requesting access already has appropriate cuvettes they may use them, subject to a maximum pathlength of 5 mm. If not, 2 mm pathlength cuvettes will be supplied by ISIS and may be requested through the Xpress Access proposal system.
Please note: if supplying your own cuvettes/packets, you must request 'own can'/'no can'.
Loaded cuvettes shall be sealed appropriately by the User and will not be opened at ISIS. Where packaging is supplied by ISIS it shall be used for sample shipment even where the User is supplying their own cuvettes. Loaded cuvettes must not under any circumstances be sent through the normal postal system.
Transport Packaging
Loaded sample containers must be packed for transport in a manner appropriate to the hazard the present and relevant UN Packing Group
Packaged samples may be shipped by the most appropriate method – Courier or Specialist shipping company. Unless completely inert they must not be sent using the Royal Mail or ParcelForce.
Safety and Shipping
Recent changes in the Transport of Dangerous Goods regulations and the UN ADR document mean that even small scientific samples may need to be classified as Dangerous Goods, and consequently may need to be shipped in a special way. Your dispatch department should be able to help you with this, or see the web site for your chosen courier:

Samples will be returned to you once any induced activity has reduced to background levels, provided ISIS has been supplied with the relevant MSDS.
