ISIS Science Advisory Committee (SAC)
The ISIS Science Advisory Committee (SAC) provides advice to the ISIS Director on all aspects of facility science and instrumentation.
The role of the SAC is to advise the Director of ISIS on ISIS Operations and Development with respect to:
- the current status and future prospects in relevant areas of scientific research;
- the actions necessary for ISIS to make a relevant contribution to these areas, e.g. investment in instrumentation, techniques and ancillary facilities, and prioritisation;
- areas of current scientific activity which are either growing or declining in relevance.
The SAC meets twice per year. The current Terms of Reference for the SAC can be found here (pdf).

The ISIS Facility Board
The ISIS Facility Board provides advice and oversight to all aspects of ISIS operations. It reports to the STFC Director of Large Scale Facilities and consists of senior members of the community and other facilities.

The ISIS Industrial Advisory Committee
Established in 2026, the IIAC meets annually to provide strategic advice on industrial engagement, helping ISIS identify opportunities to strengthen support for commercial users and inform the development of our industrial strategy.
The committee advises the ISIS Director, Associate Directors and Leadership Team on:
- Current and emerging opportunities for industry to be engaged in research at ISIS, and the best means for promoting such opportunities.
- The wider, external industrial research priorities that will shape both ISIS’s Industrial and Scientific Strategy.
- How best to develop the access routes to ISIS for industrial researchers.
- Opportunities to link ISIS’s industrial research programme with that of the wider RAL and Harwell campuses.
- Best practice for industrial engagement with respect to contractual and legal requirements.
- Maximising the impact and the dissemination of research outcomes from its industrial research portfolio.
- Development of the ISIS industrial strategy and its alignment with wider government policies and aims.
