Society award
Recognising research that demonstrates or has led to significant social benefit, through improving health, quality of life, policy change or inspiring the next generation of scientists.
Economic award
Recognising research that demonstrates significant economic impact. This could include a license deal, spin-out company, improvements to products or services, or improving a company's market share or job creation.
The winning entry in each category, judged by senior ISIS staff and the User Committee Chair, will be turned into an impact case study by our science writers. These case studies will be featured on the ISIS website and in our 2025 Annual Review, as well as made available for wider use in STFC and UKRI. Winners will also be invited to present their work at
NMSUM 2025, where the results will be announced.
The extended deadline for applications is 10 January 2025.
Eligibility
Researchers who have been PI or Co-I on an ISIS proposal in the last 3 years. Note, permission from the PI will be needed if an application is submitted by a Co-I or a PhD student.
Criteria
We are following the Research England definition of impact for the REF, where impact is the “effect on, change or benefit to the economy, society, culture, public policy or services, health, the environment or quality of life" in the UK or internationally. There will be three awards: science, social and economic.
To Apply
You will need to provide:
- Your contact details
- Details of the specific project that generated the impact, linked to a successful proposal
- Impact of the research, specifically who benefitted and quantify what the benefits were
- Evidence of these benefits – references, testimonials, case studies, etc.
