ISIS Neutron Muon Source offers a number of different events and training opportunities aimed at PhD and post-doctoral researchers.

    From placement to publication: all before leaving school
    During a two-week placement at ISIS, Europa school student Emilie Revill-Hivet made and characterised a compound: lithium methanesulfonate, leading to the publication of an article in Royal Society Open Science.
  • Industrial Placements 2021/22 now open
    STFC's Industrial Placement scheme gives undergraduate students the opportunity to work at ISIS for 12 months.
  • ISIS Neutron Training Course
    The ISIS Neutron Training Course is a practical instrument-based course for postgraduate and post-doc researchers who have little or no experience of neutron scattering, but whose future research program will make use of time-of-flight neutron techniques.

    ISIS Neutron and Muon Source would like to welcome our new cohort of Sandwich Students for 2021.The sandwich student scheme offers students the opportunity to spend a year away from their degrees and gain valuable work experience.
  • Muon Training School
    ISIS runs a biennial training schools on how to use muons as a research tool. These include a variety of lectures and workshops on the muon technique given by experienced researchers, and also the chance to perform muon experiments.
  • PhD Studentships
    Applications are now open for PhD positions co-funded by the ISIS Neutron and Muon Source.
  • The Oxford School on Neutron Scattering
    ​The Oxford School on Neutron Scattering runs every two years. It takes around 60 students for 12 days, and aims to provide an in-depth grounding to theory , techniques, applications, facilities (pulsed and steady) and beamtime proposal.
