We would like to invite ISIS users to apply for the fourth annual ISIS impact awards. The winning entries will be judged by the ISIS User Committee and the winners presented at a user community event. Find out more about previous winners here.
Apply here - deadline Friday 14 May 2021
Background to the awards
Eligibility
Researchers who have been PI or Co-I on an ISIS proposal in the last 3 years. Note, permission from the PI will be needed if an application is submitted by a Co-I or a PhD student.
Criteria
We are following the Research England definition of impact for the REF, where impact is the “effect on, change or benefit to the economy, society, culture, public policy or services, health, the environment or quality of life" in the UK or internationally. There will be three awards: science, social and economic.
Science award – the contribution that excellent research makes to academic advances, across and within disciplines, including significant advances in understanding, methods, theory, application and academic practice.
Society award – research that demonstrates or has led to significant social benefit, through improving health, quality of life, policy change or inspiring the next generation of scientists.
Economic award – research that demonstrates significant economic impact. This could include a license deal, spin-out company, improvements to products or services, or improving a company's market share or job creation.
To Apply
You need to provide:
- Your contact details
- Details of the specific project that generated the impact, linked to a successful proposal
- Impact of the research, specifically who benefitted and quantify what the benefits were
- Evidence of these benefits – references, testimonials, case studies, etc
Award
The winning entries in each category will be turned into impact case studies by our science writers and featured on the ISIS website and in our 2021 Annual Review, as well as made available for use more widely in STFC and UKRI. Winners will be invited to present their work at a suitable ISIS science or user meeting.
Terms and conditions
All applicants agree to any information they provide being used in publicity materials and to be available to provide a presentation on their impact to the ISIS user community.
